Nellie M. Smith

Nellie M. Smith, 78, former long-time
resident of Stillwater, died Monday evening, Oct. 20, 2003, at the
Balanced Care Nursing Home in Lightstreet, where she was a resident
since 1992. She had been in failing health for several months.
Mrs. Smith was born on Jan. 14, 1925,
in the Cass Mountain area in West Virginia. She was a daughter of the
late George and Thelma Elliott Phares.
She retired in 1987 from Wise Potato
Chips, Berwick, where she had worked for many years.
She enjoyed hunting, fishing and the
outdoors.
In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Charles Smith, who died in 1991; a
son, Charles K. Davis; and a brother, Joseph Phares.
Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons:
William Davis of Nescopeck, Elliott Davis of Gilbertsville, and James
Davis of Whitehall; two daughters: Mrs. Bruce (Jolene) Smith of
Berwick, and Mrs. Gary (Sue) Boughman of Whitehall; one
daughter-in-law, Huong Davis of Berwick; three stepchildren: Ralph
Smith of Nescopeck, Steven Smith of New England, and Carol Smith of
Nescopeck. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren (two are deceased)
and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Gabriel (Mary Lee)
Scala, Berwick.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were
held Friday at 11 a.m. from the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home,
1024 Market St., Berwick. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery,
Berwick, with visitation Friday at 10 a.m. until the time of service.
